This is a story that would have been
the perfect Avengers movie after Endgame. And it should have been the climactic event of Phase 4.
The reaction to Secret Invasion wasn’t great, for so many reasons. The biggest letdown, though, is how one of the coolest concepts from the comics was adopted.
Secret Invasion is one of the best crossover events in Marvel comics. And it’s a story fitting a big crossover event.
So we came up with how Secret Invasion should have been done in the MCU.
And Avengers 5 in phase 4 would have fixed so many things for the entire multiverse saga.
Alright, we all know that Secret Invasion was really disappointing, so I’m not going to pile on too much.
If you want to hear our thoughts on the show, watch our review that explains what went wrong.
Instead, let’s start by explaining why Secret Invasion needed to be an Avengers movie.
The comics version of Secret Invasion was about the Skrulls invading Earth. What makes it so unique is the reveal that Skrulls shapeshifted into many heroes. They infiltrated every team, as well as agencies like Shield.
But the really massive twist is that some heroes were replaced years before this event. Meaning that the Skrulls were pretending to be established heroes for a long time.
Doug: So that’s like Rhodey was a Skrull since Civil War, right?
Well, they tried to do this Skrulls twist with Rhodey in the show, but they messed it up. The reveal feels so empty and sloppy.
Anyway, the Skrulls were a huge threat, so all the Marvel heroes had to join forces and defeat them.
Secret Invasion was awesome, and it led to another great story that gave us supervillain teams like the Thunderbolts and the Dark Avengers.
A story that would have been a perfect fit for phase 5.
So you can see why Secret Invasion would have worked much better as an Avengers movie.
The MCU making a small-scale show that feels cheap and insignificant ultimately feels like such a waste of the fantastic story.
And there are some good adaptations of the story. The animated show Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes did the story really well. In fact, they did some things even better than the comics.
And Agents of Shield already made a much better version of Secret Invasion on television.
The fourth season deals with characters being replaced by imposters. Now while it’s robots and not Skrulls, the concept is the same.
There is that intense paranoia, characters we know and love might have been replaced. Take for example one of the best scenes of the season.
Fitz and Simmons - a couple who are in love - can’t trust each other because they believe the other might be an imposter.
This is exactly the kind of scene that would have saved Secret Invasion. This is the staple of the body snatcher concept.
This is pretty much non-existent in the MCU’s Secret Invasion. But we will have that in our version of the story.
Granted, doing a faithful adaption of Secret Invasion isn’t easy. Because there are a lot of characters, many of them are imposters, and it won’t be cheap.
But Secret Invasion cost over $200 million, that’s as much as most MCU movies.
Doug: This cost 200 million? They spent all that money on the Drax baby arm?
Well they basically filmed this show twice, instead of filming an Avengers movie once.
And this brings us to why we needed an Avenges movie in phase 4.
I understand why Marvel wants their Avengers movies to be these huge crossover events.
But by the point Avengers Kang Dynasty comes out, it will be 7 whole years since Endgame. 7 years!
This is the same time gap between the first Avengers and Endgame.
And it’s more than just the long wait, there’s a bigger problem.
We don’t know who the new Avengers even are. Is there even a team, or is it just an army of heroes now?
What is the dynamic between these heroes? Who’s the Tony of the saga, who’s the Steve? Can these heroes co-exist as a team in a world that lost half of the original Avengers?

The second episode of Loki season 2 reunited Loki and Sylvie, while also laying the groundwork for Dr Strange 3 and Avengers: Secret Wars. There are some deep-cut Easter Eggs that connect to the Eternals, Thor comics, and the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

This is my favorite kind of episode of a TV show. Characters are still reeling with the repercussions of the manic events of episode 1, as they're trying to figure out what to do next. But in moments like these, we get to see character relationships develop and grow.
In this episode we see that Loki and Mobius have a true friendship-and Liki still has feelings for Sylvie. We also see that he still doubts himself. Can he be the hero–or is there just always a villain lurking under the surface, waiting to be let out so he can hurt people? In a larger sense, the TVA is experiencing an identity crisis. Who are they now? What’s their mission? These questions are forcing the characters to decide who they want to be.
The episode is also field with the tiniest, most obscure references to the comics and other MCU stories–it was a real geek feast I’m excited to tell you about, so thanks for choosing this video, and as always thanks for supporting us and shopping our merch store, where we design the shirts ourselves. Shopping our merch store is the next way you can support our channel, thanks for watching, let’s dive in. We begin in London 1977–and notice the distinction that this is on the sacred timeline. Last week’s post credits scene made it clear that Sylvie is on a branching timeline-and now we know why. Elements within the TVA still see the sacred timeline as the only timeline that matters, and will only see some of the people on those timelines as variants-as less than. And of course this draws a connection to Loki, who always sees himself as less than–the little brother, the lesser of Odin’s sons. [avengers, I remember a shadow].
This mission is new for Loki–because Mobius has never been undercover before. Hw’s alway wore his normal suit, because he was always showing up to timelines before they were pruned. And notice how Loki–ever the showman–has chosen a tux with a frilly shirt. And at the premiere Natalie Holt gives us a 70s funk version of the Loki theme [clip].
So we opened at a movie theater–and it showed a lot of restraint on disney’s part to not have star wars posters everywhere, since this is the year a new hope was released. There is one fun star wars cameo in the lobby that I think they did with a deep fake, this is your mom. But these posters are my favorite easter eggs in this episode. First, this one is for Herbie rides again.
Doug: What's that?
Well it’s a 1974 sequel to the ‘68 movie the Love bug. In the sequel, a sentient car named Herbie saves a woman from being evicted by a greedy landlord. The thing is, there was a herbie movie released in 1977-herbie goes to Monte Carlo. And compared to Herbie rides again, it's bad. Herbie rides again tells a heartb=felt story about greedy capitalists forcing a woman from her home–which hey, parallels nickel with this episode, when the existing power structures of the TVA essentially destroy the homes of trillions of people on the branching timelines.
Herbie goes to monte carlo was about rich people car racing. A metaphor for how the counterculture movement of the 1960s gave way to the industrialized hyper-capitalist culture of the 1980s.

My Ford GT needs a little work, so we're heading to visit @tavarish! The flooded P1 awaits, as does Freddy's first drive in a GT, and then the preparation before it is going to be boxed up. This means it's a last drive, the time has flown by, but it's time to bring the Shmeemobile home!
Having been based in Orlando for the last part of this insane US adventure with my Ford GT, it's time now to send it on the way back home, and that means a few bits of prep. Firstly, we've got to get the fuel down as I've got too much in the tank. Then it's about prepping the battery and therefore removing the headlight - thankfully Freddy having all the tools required to get this done with minimum fuss.
The next time I'm going to see it though, will be when we head to MyCarImport in the UK to pick it up when it has arrived across the seas. I actually can't wait to get it home after the most amazing period all the way across America.

There's crazy, and then there's what @tavarish has gone and done! Freddy has bought the infamous flood damaged McLaren P1, and my goodness does he have his work cut out to bring this back to the road. Let's head over in his re-built 675LT to go check it out... Oh boy!
I first visited Freddy when he had just bought the crash damaged 675LT, and in fact it had certainly seen better days: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9kf5t5PWDA However, fast forward and it's had a total overhaul, been brough back to life, and has numerous totally unique features.
Observant viewers will notice that unfortunately this 675LT has since rather blown up... to put it lightly. Hopefully it's easy enough to work out that this was filmed beforehand and held back to reveal the P1 once Freddy had taken the wraps off to the world! More about all of that on @tavarish's channel.
However, today is all about the P1, the most infamous P1 in the world. The car that was destroyed by the hurricane in Florida last September, seem by millions in videos and images being battered around the owner's garage in flood water, sailing off down the street, and coming to a rest atop a toilet. Of course that was a devastating event and sadly many lost lives in the brutal weather, however it's Freddy's goal to get this car back on the road one day.
When it comes to a rebuild project, it's safe to say that this must be the biggest undertaking ever seen in this space. Not only has the car been entirely submerged, but every body panel has taken a battering, and absolutely nothing works as it should. I have no idea how he's going to manage, but I can't wait to see it finished!
